UAE cinema revenues cross Dh734 million as creative industries expand in 2025
Gaming, films and content creation drive media sector’s record performance
DUBAI – The UAE’s media sector recorded significant growth across cinema, gaming, publishing, and content creation in 2025, according to figures released by the National Media Authority.
The latest performance indicators highlight the continued expansion of creative industries, supported by regulatory frameworks and policies aimed at strengthening the sector’s role in the national economy.
The figures reflect growing activity across multiple segments, from entertainment and digital platforms to publishing and creator-led content.
UAE cinema growth
The UAE’s cinema sector generated revenues exceeding Dh734 million at the box office in 2025, driven by the sale of more than 14.8 million tickets across around 1,270 films screened nationwide. The performance highlights the scale of the country’s cinema market and its growing contribution to the creative economy, with the UAE continuing to attract film audiences and industry activity across the region.
The gaming sector also continued its rapid expansion, ranking among the fastest-growing segments within the UAE’s media and entertainment landscape. Revenues from digital gaming platforms reached Dh2.7 billion in 2025, while the number of games reviewed and classified under UAE standards increased to 552, compared with 375 in 2024.
The rise in classified games reflects the growing demand for gaming content and the development of a structured environment supporting the sector’s expansion. Gaming continues to emerge as a key area within the UAE’s wider digital media ecosystem.
Rise in publishing
The publishing industry recorded strong activity during the year, with more than 100,000 permits issued for book circulation and publishing. Nearly 1.2 million titles entered the UAE market, reflecting the scale of publishing and cultural production across the country.
The National Media Authority also issued more than 15,000 Advertiser permits since their introduction last year. The initiative aims to regulate digital advertising activities while supporting transparency and professionalism across the growing content economy.
The licensing framework has introduced a structured approach for digital advertising, aligning with the rapid transformation of the media sector and the increasing role of creators, brands, and online platforms.
Focus on future
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the National Media Authority, said the 2025 results demonstrate the UAE’s progress in developing a competitive media environment that supports a knowledge- and creativity-driven economy.
He said the sector’s indicators reflect its increasing economic contribution, supported by investment growth, expanding creative industries, and the development of high-potential fields including cinema, gaming, content creation, and publishing.
Al Shehhi added that the UAE’s approach to media legislation and policy continues to balance regulatory flexibility with global competitiveness, strengthening the country’s appeal for companies, talent, and investment.
He further noted that the National Media Authority will continue enhancing legislative frameworks and digital services to support media sector growth, increase its economic contribution, attract high-value investments, and reinforce the UAE’s position as a global hub for media and creative industries.
